Today we were asked to bring something to explain in front of the class. I have brought a book. I did not bring this book because I had no other choice. In fact, it took me 2 days to decide exactly what I would bring today. In this book I found a lot of perspective in life. The lives of other people gave me hope that even a student like me could start a change in the world. As you can see, this book is entitled, "You Can Be a World Changer." It contains the lives of normal people who gave extraordinary changes such as Rosa Parks, who ended the segregation of whites and blacks abroad, C.S. Lewis, who wrote The Chronicles of Narnia (which is also popular today), Milton Hershey, who is the founder of The Hershey Chocolate Company, Eric Liddell, who won the Men’s 400 meters at the Olympic Games in 1924, and so much more. I chose this book because I want to be like them someday. Not the part where I could be a part of a book but to someday be a part of a change.
Actually, I didn't want to talk about this book specifically but also about all books in general. There are many varieties of books these days. There are some about love, some about school, and some just about jokes. We know that there are many things that we can learn about books but the young people these days are not really engaged in reading books. We prefer to sit in front of the computer and surf the net or just watch the television the whole day. Because of the internet, we can access different types of information but we do not use it for that, we use it to play computer games when instead we could take a chance of learning lots of things through it.
I, personally, didn't like books before because I found them boring. But now, I love them. I love reading books. Back in high school, I was a library person. I really love staying inside the library and reading many books. There are times that I read fiction novels and there are times that I read biographies. I don’t think reading books is only for the nerds and the geeks. I think that reading books is a very rewarding thing because you won’t even notice that you are already learning. My love for books has opened many opportunities for me because it widened my vocabulary. Before I end, I would like to leave you something about Mark Twain. He said that the man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read them.
